Describe Jonathan Greene

Recently my grandparents came to visit me from Virginia, and when I said I needed to go the Burroughs and Chapin Art Museum for my Art Appreciation class they were more than happy to take me. I don’t really go there that often, and my grandparents had never been. Even though I had gone a few times before, it was a new experience for the both of us. Downstairs they had some really awesome exhibitions and it was very difficult to pick two pieces to write about. After a thorough examination, I chose to discuss two of Jonathan Green’s works because they were in a medium that I am the most familiar with and they spoke to me in a way that none of the other works did.
My personal favorite was a monumental oil painting entitled “Seeking, which was created in 2006, on a very large stretched canvas. It was by far the most eye catching picture in the gallery, with its bright and demanding shades of reds and greens. A tv was set up nearby playing a documentary that was created based on this piece, along with a plaque that explained a little about it.

The style in which he painted the trees creates an atmosphere of mystery and eeriness with a ; it's almost as if the viewer is observing a scene from an exotic rainforest i far off land Because the trees are so dense and wild they practically engulf the figures in limbs and leaves, and give the painting a great sense of moment. The color scheme the artist chose was phenomenal, I believe it works so well because he opted to do multiple layers of different colors on certain sections rather than a more homogenous blend of paint. Another reason I feel the painting is so aesthetically pleasing, is the fact that the two most prevalent colors are complimentary based on color wheel theory. Overall, I believe this is by far one of Green’s finest works and I am very pleased to see it showcased in this

I really enjoyed visiting the Museum of Fine Arts in Downtown Houston, every panting was different many caught my attention, but the one that attracted me the most was the art piece Marsh Sunset made by Martin Johnson Heade, there was so much detail to is and I just couldn’t stop staring at the natural beauty of the landscape. When you drive past landscapes while on a road trip, sometimes no one puts in much thought into the beauty because it's there and the idea of it disappearing never comes to mind, but seeing the Marsh Sunset Piece makes you look into it. This emphasizes the rhythms of nature and the inevitable change of time, just keeps on ticking, it's never ending. Even though the objects in the picture of the view don’t move and remain…

I like your description of the Getty Museum visit, and the idea of the continuity of styles and movements through the museum display. Last spring, I took APU class Modernism and Museum in which I learned about the efforts of Alfred Barr that actually developed the concept of the museum display that made transitions and influences of modernistic styles from one to another appear coherent and logical. People who has never seen Cezanne, Seurat, Van Gogh, Matisse and Picasso in a sequential order would have a problem to understand Pollock or Rothko. Great post! Thank you, It was a pleasure to be in the same group.…

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Mike and Sydney Green on August 24, 1977, John Michael Green's draws on his childhood experience for many of his characters. I was extremely fortunate. My parents loved and encouraged me; my brother was empathetic and supportive; my friends (when I had them) were lots of fun without being too dangerous. That said, due to some malfunctioning brain chemistry and also due just to the nature of being a person, I often felt isolated and alone and scared. I was quite nerdy and dearly wished that I could be popular.…
