Everything revolved around my schoolwork. I was raised to think that doing well in school and eventually getting into college was top priority. For example, when I was younger I would get so upset and frustrated, if I wasn 't able to understand a concept or if I didn 't do well on an assignment. That 's when my self-determination and dedication for school began. Throughout elementary school and middle school, I found myself not struggling to get work done because by this point of my life, my successful study habits became second nature. This was put to the test when I decided to apply to a private high school, known as Notre Dame High School. Once I was accepted, the transition from middle school to high school was no walk in the park. Not only is high school a scary place for a freshman, it was a whole new school, a new community. Nevertheless, I began to adapt to my new community and succeeded. Through my dedication and hard work, I was able enter Hightstown High School with a transcript that allowed to to take all honors classes and two AP classes. I am currently working as hard as I can to get a good score on my SAT and get into a good university. Once a task is started, I have to finish it and

Throughout high school, my teachers have always said, “We are preparing you for college,” and, “It won’t be this easy when you go to college.” We are conditioned to think of college as a completely independent learning environment where spending hours studying a textbook is the key to a good grade and later, success in a career. “No one in college will care whether you pass or fail. It’s all up to you,” said my freshman English teacher. I have had the unique opportunity to test this theory out the past two years through the Trailblazer Collegiate Academy. Switching between high school and college-mode can be a challenge, but one that develops my learning in a deeper way.…

I did succeed in making my grades but by the last months of the semester I realize that the stress that came with procrastination wasn’t worth in ad I started working on time management. In high school the words time management are repeated but never really explains. I grew up hating the simple idea of time management, but I have since learned that is means balance. It is easy to think of staying in and doing nothing but studies, but true time management is the balancing the responsibilities you must complete and the things you want to do. This realization has taught me that I can have a “fun” college experience without forgetting the reason I am at a university.…

Along with studying it is necessary to build your relationship with your peers and professors to be successful in college. Many would argue that the most critical skill for a teacher leader is the ability to facilitate dialogue amongst teachers (Danielson, 2006). In my opinion, a facilitator possesses good listening skills, is open minded, and is open to feedback. I feel my facilitation skills are good, but they could use some improving. As a teacher leader, I may be asked to facilitate a meeting where I am in charge of introducing a topic, presenting a new idea, or keeping the group on track (Danielson, 2006). My action plan to improve my facilitation skills is to lead more group meetings.…

I realized that I needed to change the way I managed my time in order to maintain good grades and balance the work in all of my classes. Throughout my four years of high school I didn’t appreciate the daily schedule that had already been planned out for me, but I found myself missing this in my first few weeks in college. My high school was structured in a way where I would go to the same seven classes every day. In every class I knew to expect to have an assignment done for the following day of school, and I had little time to procrastinate homework assignments. Class sizes tended to be smaller, giving teachers the opportunity to learn the names and faces of the students in their class.…

My GSW 1110 instructor is Mr. Klever. He was my Advanced English 11 teacher as well. Therefore, having him for the second year in a row, it made coming into this course much easier. I knew how his teaching style was and I was already use to it, rather than coming into a brand new class with an instructor I knew nothing about or how their teaching style was. Being in GSW 1110 my senior year of high school has taught me so many things and made me become a better writer as well as getting me ready for my future college classes and my future career.…

To no longer be under the complete protection from the real world by teachers and parents is something that is alarming to me. The first day of high school impacted me in many ways. It taught me that actually learning was far more important than just memorizing something in order to gain the teacher 's approval and that the real world was going to begin in a very short amount of time. The first day of high school also made me realize how inefficient junior high school was for me. As I look back on junior high school, I feel like years of my education were wasted on unimportant material that have no value.…

I did not like school throughout elementary, middle and the beginning of high school because I felt like no one pushed me or had any faith in my education. When I was a sophomore in high school I changed my entire outlook on my education and became studious. To learn material I had to use resources outside of school and take responsibility for my education. I began to realize that without education I could not succeed and I would just be another person who graduated from Graham High School, the school with very little potential. I began to earn good grades and I got involved with clubs, sports and I even became the student body president of my high school.…
