Describe A Jazz Concert

I have always loved listening to different kinds of music, from country, to pop, and even classical. Before this concert, however, I had never seen a Jazz concert performed by other musicians. In approximately the 6th grade, however, I preformed a blues piece in the exact room the Introduction to jazz class takes place. This had been my foundation for Jazz up until this point in time. One could say that I had no experience when it came to the concepts of Jazz in its entirety. This meant that not only attending a Jazz concert, nevertheless an Introduction to Jazz class, that I had no clue what to expect. Luckily the University of Indianapolis had a sponsored Jazz week and I was able to attend two outstanding performances back to back, each of which was comprised of widely known musicians from the Jazz community. On April 10th, I attended a concert In the Christel DeHaan fine arts center at the University of Indianapolis. The band performing was led by an influential drummer by the name of Tim Horner. Making this small band into a quartet, Tim was accompanied by Steve Allee on piano, Jeremy Allen on Bass and Dave Stryker playing on the guitar.
Unlike many other concerts I had been to, it was a small and intimate environment. The …show more content…
This was a fast paced song full of swing and country twang. An array of solos (that seemed to me like call and response) continued throughout the song creating a smooth entrance for the rest of the ensemble. These solos were produced by the guitar and piano throughout the piece while hard strumming of the bass were played within the bridge becoming more and more prominent throughout. A Room Full of Shoes was inspired by an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This exhibit has over 5,000 pieces of art portraying shoes from all over the world.
