In the year 2011 I experienced a huge obstacle in my life. I was an avid tennis player for already three years and I had attained the highest level in Texas, Superchamp. Each year the United States Tennis Association holds a statewide tournament called the Grand Slam where all the best Texas tennis players compete for a lot of ranking points and the prestigious spot of being the best in Texas. In this particular year I began training for the Grand Slam sooner then previous years by hitting the court hard months before the event would take place. Due to the intensity in which I trained, I developed a bilateral stress fracture in my lower back and had an injury that would prove to be both a trial and a growing experience.
The pain started gradually but worsened after I continually pushed myself in practice after practice. In reality, I was worsening the small fracture into something much worse, and I had no idea the severity of my condition. Several doctors looked at the results and concluded that surgery was the best option and the bone had a near zero percent chance of healing properly. One doctor disagreed and said that he thought there was a chance bone could heal if the site remained immobile, in other words, I had to wear a full back brace.
