In this case, the theorists believe that anything that is not made up of a physical material does not exist. A good example that is given by Searle, who is a monist, is that of froth from the waves at the beach. He compares the froth with consciousness, whereas the wave is compared to the physical reality.
Consciousness does not make any meaningful difference to the physical reality. Idealism is also a theory that seeks to identify the relationship between the body and the mind.
