Rene Descartes was a French Philosopher in the 16th century. This essay is will focus on his works in Mediations of First Philosophy most notably the first and second meditations, were Descartes begins his journey in riding his life of deceptive beliefs, and finds a point to build on the foundation of knowledge.
Descartes became disturbed with the amount of false beliefs he had over time developed. He set out to (through meditation), to dissolve all beliefs he had and develop a foundation of what can be without doubt proven as truth. During his first meditation and using the system of doubt he begins dismissing all things that have one time or another deceived him, such as his senses, dreams and science. Descartes does attempt to finally find a spot build upon by believing that the basic components such as Math have to be true because they “contain something certain and indubitable” (Descartes pg. 1). After realizing this he goes into the possibility of doubting God, and if he did not exist then he is just a product in an imperfect world so all beliefs such as basic components could be dismissed.

I do believe that he was successful in his findings, I do think he could have found it sooner but this is also an outsider’s perspective. He spends a lot of time playing with his imagination and the notion of God and a deceiver. If he would have just cleared it all out he might have gotten to the point quicker. The theory behind this is once you got to the point that the old foundations have crumbled then you would realize right from the beginning that your mind is thinking of these things so it must that constant that you need to determine that it must be
