To begin, this article examines the basic differences between being a dermatologist versus being an aesthetician. The authors, Verma and Draelos (2008) describe that an aesthetician can be defined as the study of skin, hair and nails and specializes in giving beauty treatments (Verma and Draelos, 2008). They then go on to describe a dermatologist as physicians that work in the scientific field of medicine to examine the external expects of the living body (Verma and Draelos, 2008). The authors clarify that the process of training to be an aesthetician is widely less difficult and time consuming then practicing to work as a dermatologist. The two specialties are helpful in their own ways which is determined by the harshness and the level of help the patient desires. Overall a dermatologist is generally needed for more severe issues, and an aesthetician is helpful in basic skin needs. …show more content…

Aestheticians however focus more on the outer appearance of beauty and helping patients skin be the heathiest it can be. They focus on treatments for beauty in both men and women in salons or spas. Dermatologist will generally lean towards medication or stronger procedures while the methods of an aesthetician are generally more simple and detailed with different skin routines to fit the induvial.
