The Grosser, the Better 1. My fascination with skin started with Youtube. Dr. Pimple Popper videos became an obsession of mine. Even the cystic craters on people's skin didn’t trigger my gag reflex. Then, my own skin began to show signs of mild acne. My mother scheduled an appointment to the dermatologist’s office. The type of work they do for patients seemed to be captivating and challenging. These experiences revealed what occupation I want to pursue. Dermatology has become a passion and career goal that I desire to strive for in the future. 2. Dermatologists specify in the treatment of diseases on the skin. This career regularly deals with diagnosing skin lesions, performing skin surgeries, and recording a patient’s health history (OK College Start.org). Dermatologists usually don’t face any type of physical danger. Dermatologists have one of the safest jobs in the medical field. Popping pimples isn’t really considered dangerous until someone forgets to put on safety goggles (Shmoop.com). I would take precautions before messing with anything that could launch towards my face. 10. Becoming a dermatologist has some great satisfactions. Diagnosing a skin disease can change someone’s life and could better the quality of living (Shmoop.com). For instance, identifying a teenager’s acne and prescribing them medicine could improve their self-esteem and appearance. 11. On the other hand, dermatology has a downside. Residency school is a highly competitive program. Fewer positions are in dermatology residency than in internal medicine (Shmoop.com). There isn’t a definite chance that everyone graduating from medical school will make into residency. That is a frightening realization for me as a prospect in the world of dermatology. I have the potential to follow my dream, but my fate will be in the hands of
