Everyone is expected to have some sort of job in their life, whether it’s picking up trash or being an MLB super-star, you’re expected to have a job. When some people think about others not having a job they sometimes look down on or frown upon them. I personally don’t want to be one of those people. I want to be a successful woman that can supply for my family. I’ve always been interested in dermatology. I went to the dermatologist once a few years ago and it’s been a career I have wanted to have ever since. In the eighth grade I started doing some research to understand the characteristics I need to have as well as the schooling I would need to go through. It’s one of my biggest goals that I want to work towards. Dermatology is a challenging yet rewarding field (A Day). When someone thinks of a dermatologist, a doctor is not always the first thing that comes to mind. For the longest time, the first thing I thought of was pimples and problems with the skin. I never knew anything else and that’s the common idea that most people have. In order to be a dermatologist you have to get superior grades. From 1970-2000 the number of dermatologists increased by nearly 5,000 each year, making there be about 30,000 in the United States. Then from 2000-2010 the number decreased by almost 2,000. The number of dermatologists have already dropped dramatically since then and by the year 2020 the number of dermatologists is predicted to be about 20,000 (Why). Since there is a shortage of doctors, that does make it a little easier to find a job. With more openings it may be one that you can fulfill. Although, with a shortage of jobs there isn’t very many around to talk to, this will make it harder to find connections and other resources to find out about new studies that have taken place.
