Imagine with me this scene playing out something like this:

Its skin shifting colors from the deep dark green of the tree’s leaves to a light multi-tone gray and brown as its claws rip Bain from his mount pinning him helplessly to the hard stony pathway. Bain rapidly shifts his head back and forth in an attempt to avoid its powerful saber tooth like jaws snapping wildly at his face, its large saber canines clanking loudly against Bain’s metal helm. The beast yelps and rolls off of him and to his right as Lina’s arrow strikes it on the side of the head with a loud thud. Although the arrow doesn’t penetrate the thick, tough hide of the nemen, it does provides Bain with the moment needed to focus a counter attack. As he reaches for his sword, still fastened to his belt, he hears the nemen cry out in pain as your sword comes down hard onto the its shoulder. The nemen quickly turns to you, and lunges with lightning speed, knocking you backward and onto the ground. It slashes at you, cutting deep gouges across your light armor with its powerful claws. You roll with the nemen’s attack and spring to your feet as it springs off into the trees and in an instance is gone without another …show more content…
“Why is it that I always seem to find you laying down in battle waiting for me to do all of the work?” you ask jokingly. He grunts a snicker as you pull him to his feet.
Lina smiles as she walks past the two of you, scouting ahead to be certain that the danger of the nemen has past. She knows all too well that nemen rarely travel alone and there are sure to be more lurking nearby.
You turn to Bain with a smile, he quickly retorts, “Don’t think for a moment that this counts as you saving my life. I had that beast right where I wanted him.”
“I know, I know my friend.”, you say patting him on the back, “I guess I am not as comfortable as you are fighting while on my back, so I suppose I am all too quick to offer assistance.” You turn to Lina and back at Bain. Addressing them both in a commanding voice, “In any event, we must move on and be all the more vigilant. We must reach Therance by nightfall or I’m afraid all may be lost”.
The three friends ride onward ever more cautiously for they know that this encounter will not be their last on the narrow, winding path through the dark forest before they reach the safety of the coastal village of Therance. But there, there along the northern coast is where their real adventure will

By a route obscure and lonely, Haunted by ill angels only, Where an Eidolon, named NIGHT, On a black throne reigns upright, I have reached these lands but newly From an ultimate dim Thule— From a wild weird clime that lieth, sublime, Out of SPACE—Out of TIME. Bottomless vales and boundless floods, And chasms, and caves, and Titan woods, With forms that no man can discover For the tears that drip all over; Mountains toppling evermore Into seas without a shore; Seas that restlessly aspire, Surging, unto skies of fire; Lakes that endlessly outspread Their lone waters—lone and dead,— Their still waters—still and chilly With the snows of the lolling lily. By the lakes that thus outspread Their lone…
