"If you're going to play at all, you're out to win. Baseball, board games, playing Jeopardy, I hate to lose" (Derek Jeter). One of the best baseball players that have ever played the game, said that quote to his fellow teammates and competitors to show them that he wanted to win. Derek Jeter, also known as “The Captain” or “Mr. November” is arguably one of the greatest players baseball has ever seen. He played 20 seasons with the New York Yankees and won 5 World Series rings. The way he carried himself, on and off the field is why he has been a role model for so many kids across the nation.

Above all other major league teams, the New York Yankees are the team that everyone dreams to play for, and growing up loving and dreaming to play for them and actually making that dream come true is a huge accomplishment in life. Jeter started loving the Yankees at a young age and at the age of “eight years old, Derek dreamed of playing shortstop for the New York Yankees” (Borelli). Not only was Jeter making his dream come true, he was achieving the dream of millions of Americans that dream of playing professional baseball. Since he was named American League Rookie of the Year in 1996, Jeter has only gotten better. He has played in five World Series and 14 all-star games, led the league in runs in 1998. He played in 2,743 regular season games while in 1999 he led the league in hits. In 2000, Jeter was named the all-star MVP, as well as the World Series MVP, again setting baseball history. In 2001, Derek had another phenomenal season, topping .300, with 21 home runs, stole 27 bases and earned another all-star selection.
