A common misconception within American society is the only people who can protest for gay rights and equality are people who are in the LGBT community and usually uninformed people think it’s the more flamboyant people such as drag queens, but this picture proves otherwise; each person in this picture could easily be in the LGBT community, but they break the stereotype that protesters are flamboyant and over the top kinds of people; the people in the picture are very diverse, ardent, everyday looking people which brings a more relatable stand point for the anti-gays; with the amount of diversity and relatability within the group of protesters, more unpersuaded people will join in on the argument for equality for gays now that they feel like they can belong within the group of non LGBT protesters. The guy towards the far left of the picture has the words “Repeal Prop 8” on his t-shirt; the fact that he is wearing that shirt effects viewers because Prop 8 was a law passed in California in 2008 that made same-sex marriage illegal, and not being able to marry someone because they are the same sex can make the viewer angry and sad for the LGBT community, which helps bring more support for equality for all.
