Introduction “I didn’t want to wake up. I was having a much better time asleep. And that’s really sad. It was almost like a reverse nightmare, like when you wake up from a nightmare you’re so relieved. I woke up into a nightmare – Ned Vizzini” (“Neelis,” 2015). Is one of the quotes that describes what depression is like. Depression is something that can happen at any moment, can happen to anyone, a serious illness.
Depression is a medical illness that affects how an individual feel, how he thinks and how he acts. Depression causes problems such as loss of interest in things you once liked doing and negative feelings like sadness, or the will to do anything. It can affect the person’s ability to do things physically or mentally, anywhere. Depression can lead to many symptoms such as mentioned, “feeling sad or having a depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed, changes in appetite — weight loss or gain unrelated to dieting, trouble sleeping or sleeping too much, loss of energy or increased fatigue, increase in restless activity (e.g., hand-wringing or pacing) or slowed movements and speech, feeling worthless or guilty, difficulty thinking, concentrating or making decisions, and thoughts of death or suicide” (“Parekh,” 2015). It won’t count as a symptom unless it last two weeks, of course you should rule out things like brain tumor, as it won’t be accurate in that it may be the reason why it’s depression.
