Depression is something nobody chooses to experience; it just happens. Depression is the feeling of being sad or not worthy. Everyone at some point in life will experience depression without being aware. Depression constantly disrupts the person’s everyday life. It tends to cause pain for the individual and those who surround him or her such as family and friends. It is very common, but at the same time, depression is critical. No person should ever ignore this illness. People today believe depression is a choice, think about it just for a minute. Major depression interferes with the persons Activities of Daily Living, work, rest, study, and appetite. Major depression occurs at least once in every person’s life, but more commonly occurs in several episodes. Persistent Depressive Disorder is being depressed for a period that consists of at least two years. Persistent depression also relates back to Major Depression. Psychotic Depression usually affects those who are hallucinating. Most times the person who has this depression is experiencing a severe depression. Postpartum depression affects women who are with child or have already delivered; it is brought on from being overwhelmed as babies are a big responsibility. According to The Nation Institute of Mental Health, “It is estimated that 10 to 15 percent of women experience postpartum depression after giving birth.” Seasonal Effective Disorder affects the person in winter. This depression occurs because of the lack of sunlight. It only lasts through the winter and goes away at the beginning of spring and summer.
