Depression Among Hispanic Adolescents Essay

Depression among Hispanic adolescents is a serious illness that many of us face each year. Most cases of depression can be dealt with, however not everybody gets treatment. This is a very sensitive topic for me since I lost a friend to suicide due to depression while in High School. Learning how you can get diagnosed at an early stage is crucial so it doesn’t lead to someone taking their own life. While researching on depression I came across a lot of diagnosis done with the longitudinal design test. Which to me the longitudinal test would be the best way to research on depression that way look for risk factors as adolescent’s transition from elementary to middle school to high school. The first article I reviewed was Adolescent Suicide Attempts: Risks and Protectors. This particular test was conducted in 1995 to 1996. The reason for this study was to recognize and risk components for suicide endeavors among black, Hispanic, and white male and female young people. There are numerous reasons that someone can go through depression, it is generally not just one thing that drives them to the mentioned illness. The main thing I took after reading these articles is that depression can be diagnosed and treated before it is too late. Depression is not a secret, and it won’t leave without seeking professional help. It is essential that the cries of our family members or friends don’t go unheard. Nobody should be allowed to go through depression alone regardless of your ethnicity. Perceive the signs and any noticeable symptoms and you may have a positive effect in that person’s life before it’s too
