To protect the United States the government established the Border and Transportation Security division. The Border and Transportation Security division is responsible for protecting our borders from the illegal movement of drugs, weapons, and immigrants trying to cross the border illegally, while at the same time encouraging legal entry and exit in and out of the United States. Border security has strengthened a lot over the past decade. In order to keep our borders safe, the DHS has invested more in using radars, stronger sensors that can detect from farther away, and also have aerial assets which means that they have more helicopters and more eyes on the sky to insure that no one passess the border illegally. The DHS is also responsible for transportation security which involves securing the flow of people and goods along the nation’s highways, railways, airways, and waterways. The DHS has created agencies like the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to promote safety.
