His initial thought response to acting swiftly in regards to his pilot training is a perfect example of categorical imperative. Kant said that an “imperative” is something that a person must do. Kant said an imperative is “categorical,” when it is true at all time, and in all situations. (Categorical imperative). As the captain, Whip acted in a way which he took control of the situation. This is true in real life situations of how pilots are required to react to a situation that may be similar. I know that through selfish thinking of wanting to know the best of the best, we all intend to be quick thinkers in situations that may come about. In the movie, Whip got the opportunity to be honest with himself, others, and especially Trina, his co-worker that died in the plane crash. The relationship he had with her meant a whole lot in his life. He made the choice to be honest with everyone including himself. The two empty alcohol shooter bottles were what he drank while in flight before the crash happened. Whip got tired of being tired, the idea of lying caught up to him, his feelings. When I got the opportunity to finally notice that being honest with myself and others, my life has gotten less complicated tremendously. I can say that learning the hard way was the method of how to understand myself. To cheat in such circumstances, I may have gotten away with from that of others perspective. However, I knew otherwise and felt the guilt. That is not a good feeling at all. Whip could not deal with the feeling of guilt of putting the blame on his friend Trina. Therefore, he was honest by stating he has a problem with alcohol and he is an alcoholic.
