Personal Statement: A Career As A Dentist

While I was a child I had to go to the dentist almost every week because I had lots of caries. Like other children I was scared of the dentist. But one man helped me to drive away the dread of dentist . He was the first dentist I went to see in my life. The way he treated me was so gentle and I didn’t had pain at all. In addition he drove all my pain and swelling away. I could eat what I like to eat normally. Since that time I love to be a dentist. In my deepest mind, although I was a child, I felt that dental professional is a noble professional which can help people not to suffer from excruciating pain because of dental problem. I tried hard to be a dentist in high school. One night on August 2000, the day my matriculation exam result was out, had made my dream come true to be a dentist. I passed the exam, which determined my professional path, with three distinctions in Mathematics, Science and Social Science. To fulfill my dream to be a dentist, I applied only dental school.

But I was not happy to do that kind of job because I felt that I was off track from my career path . one day I got contact with a dentist from my country Dr Nyi Nyi Win and I worked in his clinic as a dentist assistant. I come to know what to do to be a dentist in America from him. He told me what exam do I have to take to be able to get into IDDP(international dentist program). While working at the clinic as dentist assistant, I come to aware the differences in dental health care between America and my country Myanmar. In America, patient do regular checkup. As for treatment part some instrument American trained dentist used are not the same as our country. The most apparent one is extraction forceps. Another thing which diverge from ours is the notation system. They use universal system and we use palmer notion system. Those experience help me a lots in my NBDE
