The first time I met Becky, she came to my office looking for assistance with registering for her current semester’s courses. To my surprise, she had taken the initiative prior to our meeting to create her own schedule based off the curriculum. In doing so, Becky immediately stood out to me as professional and mature which, are characteristics she has continued to show. As a student in my Botany lecture, Becky was always well prepared for class and excelled in her studies. When her grades began to drop towards the end of the semester, I spoke with her to see what the problem was. It was then I learned she was raising five children and her husband had recently been deployed with the United States Navy. With that tremendous workload and stressors, not once did Becky complain or seek special treatment for her situation. As a requirement for the course, students had to choose a topic to give a scientific presentation on. Displaying her academic growth, Becky chose to do her presentation on T-Cell Rearrangement as Markers for Cancer. She was capable of explaining and simplifying various mechanisms and difficult concepts with ease and clarity to the class. Since then, I have witnessed her tutor her peers in lab classes such as comparative anatomy and microbiology as well as organic chemistry. She has always engaged with her peers-regardless of age-effortlessly and among professors, she is known to have a reputation for hard work, kindness, and
