Dental implants have been around since 1952, they were invented by PerIngrvar Branemark, a Swedish orthopedic surgeon. Throughout the last 45 years, dental implants have revolutionized the face of dentistry. Dental implants are made of titanium and are replacements for either the root or roots of teeth. Just like teeth are in the jawbone, dental implants are placed securely into the jawbone. The success of dental implants can be attributed to a surgeon discovering the extraordinary properties of titanium. Since then, dental implants have been made out of titanium due to its property of fusing to bone and its compatibility with human bone. Without knowing the benefits of titanium, dental implants would not have the high success rate they do. …show more content…
There was only kind of dental implant, which came in one size with the same width. Only the length of the dental implant could be modified. Today, dental implants are often used to replace missing single tooth. They now come in different shapes and sizes to accommodate different teeth. In many cases, dental implants are used for cosmetic uses. It boosts a person’s self-esteem and confidence. It also helps to improve chewing and speech clarity after one has lost teeth. However, dental implants are mainly used for medical uses. The purpose of dental implants is to be able to support crowns, bridges, and dentures. Surgeons and dentists evaluate patients to determine whether they could have an enhanced quality of life through dental implants.

There are 3 medical uses of dental implants:
Use 1- Replace missing teeth that has been lost while giving the same feel, function, and look of natural teeth
Use 2- Eliminate gums that are irritated and painful
Use 3- Stop the progressive bone loss and the shrinkage of
