During my clinical rotation with Dr. Campbell’s office, I was able to assist with sealants and several restorative procedures involving some wonderful children. Campbell’s office had three hygienists at the time of my visit, whom I was privileged enough to observe as well, and I could tell they were very beneficial to the practice. The Dental Hygienists provided debridement, education, sealants, fluoride treatments, and radiographs. Additionally, they built rapport with the patients and the patient’s family, formed patient confidence in the office, and created comfort with dentistry for young patients. Furthermore, Dental Hygienist are beneficial to this practice by providing a greater amount of clients for the office.
The patients who sought treatment at this practice were in need of preventive treatments, education, routine checkups, and restorations due to trauma or decay. By observing this office, I will be able to better communicate with young patients and more capable of addressing their early care needs.
The thing that I liked best about Dr. Campbell’s office was the open floor plan. The layout of the operator and dental chairs was less formal and lead to a more relaxed and shared experience. While I like this design for a pediatric office, I am aware that this would not be ideal for adult patients. The thing that I liked the least about this office was sterilization room. The room was small, outdated, and did not provide a great deal of working space or storage. Many of the instruments were stored elsewhere and I found they were not located in very convenient places to the
