Dental Hygiene Research Paper

“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself” (John Dewey). As a child, I was always taught that getting an education was the key to unlocking the door of success. My parents and other adults would also say that the having a lack of education equals poverty. After hearing that countless amounts of time I knew for sure that I was going to go off to college, once I graduated from high school. When someone is in high school they start to make plans as to what they are going to do after they graduate from high school. Some students decide to go straight into the workforce, some decide to join the military, and some decide to do nothing at all. Depending on the profession that someone is trying to go into will determine what degree it is that they will have to get. Andrew Hunzeker, a former college student, said “It is important to know which degree type is preferred for your future professional objective.” For example, someone might want to become a Dental Hygienist. A person can obtain an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene. An Associate of Science degree in dental hygiene is generally a two-year full-time course taken at a university, college, or technical school. A bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene is a four-year degree program offered by a university through their dental school (Prudchenko). In order to obtain the dental hygiene degree a person might decide to go to community college because it is more affordable and it would only take two years to obtain (Henderson). Yes it may be more affordable to go to a two year school to obtain a dental hygiene degree but having a four degree would be the better option because you will learn more, you will get more certifications and you are able to make more money. In addition, dental hygienists with a bachelor’s degree can work as hygienists in school health programs or other state facilities. A bachelor’s degree also prepares graduates for a master’s degree in dental hygiene, which qualifies them to teach or do research in dental hygiene
