Denotations: The poem is about a new statue that resembles the Colossus in Ancient Greece.

The title compares the Colossus of Rhodes to the Statue of Liberty. Both statues were somewhat similar since both held a torch.Both statues have a significant meaning as the Colossus Of Rhodes was built after Greece defeated the Cyprus ruler and the Statue Of Liberty that represents liberty and opportunity. The main difference was that the Colossus of Rhodes was used to intimidate people while the Statue Of Liberty was used to welcome people. The title makes you ponder if intimidating worked better or welcoming immigrants worked better.
