According to “The Psychology of Heroism,” it can be both. Its called “big H” and “little h” heroism. The difference is that big H heroism could include big risks, like being sent to prison, dying, or other serious outcomes. The first characteristic Foust said about Dennie was that he was friendly/charismatic. Everyone enjoyed his company because he be nice to them doing whatever he could knowing one day he might need their help. He had empathy for others because he would look at things from the other person’s or group’s perspective, seeing what they had to go through. He knew how to treat people. In Tim O’Brien’s speech “Heroes,” O’Brien describes what he defines as a hero. O’Brien describes a hero as someone who is not fooled by what is going on around them. To personify his definition of a hero, O’Brien uses Elroy Birdall, an old man he met before he made his decision on whether or not he was going to dodge the draft, to show how Birdall has met his criteria of a hero is. After reading the essay “Heroism: Why Heroes are Important” by Scott LaBarge once, I went back again and read it a second time. The second time I read it, I looked specifically for the use of rhetorical appeals, and I then began to write my essay. The first thing I did was use my analysis of LaBarge's use of rhetorical appeals to create my thesis statement: “LaBarge effectively uses the rhetorical appeals of ethos, logos, and kairos to convince his audience that heroes are important.” I then looked for specific examples of each appeal I said he used in order to develop support for my thesis.…

I have never thought of a hero being just a regular person with a talent and a kind heart until I heard of Tyler Joseph from the band Twenty One Pilots. Whenever you have to make a choice, he says there will always be the easy route. That is the route that can give you what you want right away. But in the end, that’s the wrong choice. Most of the time, the right decision requires work.…

A hero is someone who understands the responsibility that comes with his freedom. In class we were asked to read three stories The Crisis No. 1, Speech to the Second Virginia Convention, and The Life of Olaudah Equiano and from the stories I saw that freedom today is a lot different from freedom in those stories. In America today we take for granted our freedom unlike Thomas Paine, Patrick Henry, and Olaudan Equiano who fought for our freedom and did not take it for granted, if those three people saw how much people discriminate others they would be offended because there hard work did not change much, and Americans has lost their faith in God and more and more are losing their faith every single day. We as a country take for granted out liberty rather than the people who came to America and…

The majority of people have their own definition of a hero, my definition is, a hero is someone that fights for what they believe in, no matter the consequences. Like Beowulf for example, stood up for the people of Heorot when Grendel started to attack, and he also went after the dragon to protect his people. Another hero to me would be Boo Radley. Both Boo, and Beowulf fought for what they thought was right, and also changed how people thought of them.…
