Imagine Brittany Spears and Justin Timberlake wearing denim head to toe, thriving in a new trend at the American Music Awards. Exactly fifteen years ago these two stepped out in their bold, blue jeans. Denim trends have been altered and portrayed differently for years, yet the popularity and attraction of denim seems to always reappear. Whether celebrities or street style was the source of influence, denim continuously occurs in new and innovative ways. The most common denim trends for fall of 2016 are distressing and patchwork. This self-inflicted damage to denim has become trendy through its style, washes and fits, and quality. These unique techniques create one of a kind denim, a source of individuality we all aim for while conforming to society’s views of style. Styling of distressed denim helps create the authenticity and bold appearance you pay the price for. As we move into fall and winter, the colder weather calls for more clothing, less skin and thicker fabric. Distressed and patched denim not only adds a flare to your simple denim, but contours the curves and flatters the shape of your body. We see released hems, whiskering, chevrons, tears, patchwork and hand sanding for both genders. When working with distressed denim the process is hand done, while you reflect your individuality in ways of styling the denim, you also reflect the work of an artist. The classic style of denim with a white t-shirt is even enhanced with these trends. These denim trends show the influence of new styles and societal expectations.
