This is “proficiency in managing relationships and building networks to get the desired result from others, reach personal goal, build rapport, and find common ground.” This component has five competencies. These competencies are leadership, effectiveness in leading change, conflict management, influence and communication, and expertise in building and leading teams (Denhardt, pg. 25)
In comparison to those components by Denhardt and Goleman, Reddin has his own component’s he addresses in the book; vision, self-assessment, and value orientations. What we value has a direct bearing on the decisions we make, whether we are at work or at home. The personal values inventory describes six different value orientations; theoretical, power oriented, achievement oriented, human oriented, industry oriented, and financial oriented. These values can help you with your career preferences that line with some of your personal preferences (Denardt, pg. 29).
Internal locus of control is when people believe that they are control of their own life and their destiny. With external locus of control, people believe that there was something else that influenced their fate. The five stages of the creative process are verification, illumination, incubation, concentration, and preparation. Preparation is the first step and that is where all parts of the problems are thoroughly investigated and understood. This person searches for facts in order to gain perspective.
The second stage is the concentration stage. This is where the energy and resources of someone are focused on fixing and solving the problem at hand. They try all they can to figure out the situation.
The third stage is the incubation stage. This is a largely unconscious phase. It is considered the “black box” of creativity. There is a subconscious ordering and reordering of information that is assembled together during this stage. This cannot be a forced process and the all the person can do is try and relax and let other ideas explain
