Deng Xiaoping’s Reform
Deng Xiaoping’s reform is prominent for one of China’s significant advancement by greatly improving China’s economy and improving individual’s lives. His reform was irreplaceable because of Deng’s previous ruler, Mao Zedong nullified China’s successful by starting the cultural revolution. The cultural revolution was made to overturn old customs and to persecute educated people. Despite all the consequence Deng stepped up as a leader during 1978 to rebuild China. He was a successful leader because of his previous positions such as a leader of Jiangxi’s Province Rujin County in the early 1930s which influenced his reform. When Mao Zedong led China, he sought out educated people like doctors and lawyers, and promoted agricultural farming. However, the agricultural farming greatly decreased China’s profit and the economy was going downhill. Fortunately, Deng Xiaoping offered a new economical strategy of manufacturing instead of farming (Reforms). Manufacturing offered faster production speed and new job opportunities. This strengthens the economy because of more goods being profited easier and the gross domestic product, or GDP substantially rose which is a successful indicator on how the economy is improving. Manufacturing was one way of improving China, but a more effective improvement was the implement of the capitalistic market economy during 1978. This was successful as proven by the National gross product which rapidly increased by 1987. (Fernandez) A capitalistic market is where production is largely owned privately and this allows inter-competition in which people strive to make the best products that can be sold. This greatly improves the economy because unlike Mao’s communist economy where people are compensated whether they work hard or not, in capitalism, you have to work hard to earn money. In contrast of Mao’s oppressive ruling, Deng granted the nation freedom of speech and freedom of religion. (Reforms) This was beneficial because people were no longer restricted by Mao, but were able to express their thoughts and practice their customs. Furthermore, this allowed the civilians exposed to western culture and had the freedom to wear what they desired. This improved the everyday individual because it gave them more freedom and not have the pressured from the government to be restricted. Aside from granted more freedom, Deng’s economic benefits also impacted the people positively, because of the GDP increase which compensated everyday necessities such as school, clothes, and food.
