Dendar Vs Parthenon

Improved Essays
I love history and these two temples represent a part of Greek and Egyptian history. Both of the temples were dedicated to goddesses. The Parthenon was dedicated to Athena and the Temple of Dendar was dedicated to Isis (Wikipedia, n.d). The beauty of the structure and design of the temples were created with rudimentary tools, but both temples have many intricate details in their architecture. Those intricate details are shown in the carvings of gods and pharaohs into the Temple of Dendur’s sandstone and the two large columns hoisted in the entrance of the temple with carvings of papyrus and lotus flowers. Also, the ninety-two metopes depicting mythical battles carved into The Parthenon’s white marble and the large columns holding entablatures

For this analysis, the artwork I selected a Volute Krater made in Greece during the 4th century B.C.E. The artist, The Underworld Painter, uses several lines, especially in the temple made for Atlas. The horizontal and vertical lines give the temple definite shape because of the thickness and they signify that a hero who has died, is the focal point on the back of the vase. The artist also uses curved lines at the top of the vase to show the richness of detail and drive the story further. The artist also uses the pointing hands of several figures to show a psychological point; Atlas on his throne and Selene driving her chariot.…

The theme of this embellishment is not known, but its form was unusual in that white marble figures, carved in relief were attached to a flat background of dark gray marble. Typically, a frieze presents painted figures on a monochrome background. What makes the Acropolis so amazing is the buildings within its walls. There is the Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Erechtheion, the temple of Athena Nike, and more. After ascending nearly three hundred feet up the hill you come to what is called the "Propylaea".…

The Parthenon or “Elgin Marbles” controversy has had both Britain and Greece scramble over who has the most acceptable appeal regarding the statues ever since Lord Elgin removed the statues from the Parthenon. Yet, from a direct comparison between the two nations based upon the strength of arguments, Britain has the most valid claim to the Parthenon Marbles. Though the flaws and bias involved in the extrapolation of evidence mush be considered such as the lack of an original document provided by Elgin to prove he was not prohibited from sending the marbles to his property. So with this in mind, the basis of the British reasoning for owning the statues can be defined as both political and economical. Britain’s document regarding the legality…

The Haremhab as a Scribe of the King is from Dynasty 18, which is correlated with the reign of Tutankhamun or Ay. The place of its origin is probably from Memphis, which dates back to 1336-1323 B.C. It is an interesting sculpture considering the medium is gray granite. Size, color and the material surface texture shows the symbols and artistry appreciated by the Egyptians. As a result of time, the gray granite blends with beige that exhibits the old age of the artwork.…

A variety of different sculptures, paintings, and architectures have been found threw out our history, but none have been as captivating as the ones sculpted by the Greeks. Falling Warrior from the East Pediment at the Temple of Aphaia at Aegina is the name of one of the sculptures that I discovered while doing my research that grabbed my attention and satisfied my stipulation. The subject seen being portrayed in the pediment depicts a warrior from the battle at Troy. This not only is a sculpture but a way of honoring the falling warriors that gave their all in the battlefield.…

The temple represents greek architecture because the greeks used such methods as setting up multiple layers of columns to disperse the weight through about 16 to 17 columns in each layer starting in the outer layer and going in. Antiquated Greek Temples featured a proportional design, columns, friezes, and pediments usually decorated with sculpture in relief. The term relief meant a method of sculpting where figures are partially or completely attached to the stone behind them.…
