When I started my project I had to figure out the order I wanted the video clips and statistic to go in (see appendix 9). So the video would not have a sense of clutter ness. I decided to open my video up with a news clip that portrayed racial profiling in action. The reason I choose to start it off with a news clip is because it grabs the viewer attention. The next thing in my video was a quote from Martin Luther King which stated “I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”…

In the chapter ‘Level 5 Leadership’ Jim Collins uses a chart to use as a reference when assessing yourself as the type of leader you are. This tool allowed me to reflect on what strengths I have but also what is needed of me to grow into the next level of a leader and allow me to be best utilized by my company. This chapter has led me to question whether or not I see a future for myself in my previous job but also has shown me I do have significant qualities that make a great leader, it’s up to oneself to reach the next step. Having the “courage to grow” is a reflection of my character, grit, and determination through the choices I make in my daily life. Whether I’m earning good grades, competing as a rodeo athlete, or sharing my time and talents as a mentor and by visiting with residents at local nursing homes with my dogs and horses, I continually strive to be a genuine role model in both my academic and personal life. I come from a generational Iowa farm family and each year can be a financial challenge depending on which way the crop prices fluctuate. My parents have encouraged and supported my brother and I in working towards achieving our goals as rodeo athletes and college-bound students, while simultaneously caring for my elderly grandparents throughout…

“You cannot be anything you want to be – but you can be a lot more of who you really are” (p 9). An interesting theory and certainly a more realistic one. Knowledge of what your strengths are is a necessary step towards success, but first we must understand what the word strength means. People’s understanding of strengths is often confused with skills. The difference between the two is that strengths are a natural ability whereas a skill is an ability that is learned.…

I agree with Ralph Waldo Emerson's statement. His statement was that unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered you will never grow. I agree with this because how can you grow if you are not trying to do other things in which you haven't mastered. If you want to grow you have to step out of your comfort zone. You must put yourself in strange and bizarre situations and it may feel uncomfortable.…

“You become what you think about all day long,” said Ralph Waldo Emerson, but to agree or disagree with his claim is the ultimate question. Honestly if a person thinks about something all day possibly they could become so paranoid they literally become it. Maybe it could depend on their type of mindset if its growth or fixed. A growth mindset is when someone can truly believe they can overcome a failure and their positive traits and skills may develop later in life, but if someone has a fixed mindset they would believe that you have success or you don’t there is no improving. Striving for success is a part of a person's natural human instinct. In the past, growing was always the result of putting oneself outside of one's comfort zone.
