"Listen to me," insisted the Demon, as he placed his hand upon my head. “We have to get you out of here before he comes.” “What do you mean? Who is he?” I questioned hesitantly. “The Prime Demon. They call him Alastair. If he finds me facilitating a Chosen, I’ll be dead!”
And with that he recited words that were unfamiliar to me. It sounded like a different language, none of this planet. A bright iridescent light encaptured us, and I closed my eyes thinking that he was going to kill me. I mean, he is a Demon afterall. However, I opened my eyes again only to be confronted with a scenery full of beauty. Tall snow capped mountains surrounded me, birds were singing songs of grace and harmony, and flowers bloomed with such vibrance. I looked

You aren’t dead. I simply just said a spell to teleport you here. They call me Azazel, and I am one of the most wanted Demons in Hell.”
“Most wanted for what?” I asked regrettingly.
“I am a rebel. I have opposed many of the stances that Hell and the Bible have,” Azazel replied falsely. After we had a lengthy conversation about Heaven, Hell, and Demons, I had learned that many demons are like Azazel, and he wasn’t here to hurt me. He told me that I was a “Chosen.” He tried to explain what it was, however, it did not make any sense to me at all. The only thing that I understood was that; I’m special and now all of the demons in Hell are trying to kidnap me. Great. “What happened to my parents, are they okay?” I asked concerningly. “Well, your parents were all figments of Alastair’s big plan to kidnap you. You see, Hell has known that you were a Chosen before you were even conceived. That is the reason why your parents have never been close to you. They aren’t people, they are demons incapable of feeling emotion.” I thought I was going to pass out. My parents are demons? That can’t be right. Well, actually, it could explain all of the lonely days spent home alone while they were out doing “better things.” It could also explain why they never acknowledged the good grades I got on tests, but my parents weren’t

I’m really not special at all. I’m just a typical 15 year old girl who goes to a typical public high school.” I asked. “The Demons want your soul, Cassie. You see, a Chosen’s soul is pure and wholesome. Their souls could power Hell for centuries on end, and you are the first Chosen that the Demons have seen for 1,000 years,” Azazel

In C. S. Lewis’ The Great Divorce, Lewis is arguing that Hell is not merely a place where wicked people who detest God end up; Hell is a place that offers people exactly what they want. The Great Divorce presents “the reason for Hell,” which is people choosing their own wishes over God (Gibson 110). This novel reveals that the self-imprisonment of one’s greatest dreams can lead to infernal results (Gibson 113). In The Great Divorce, Lewis uses Dantean structure, the nature of Grey Town, and the various Ghosts’ interviews to prove that to live in Hell is to receive and accept everything except God and his will.…

I agree with Marilyn McCord Adams’ assertion that Hell is a bigger problem than evil. For the purposes of this essay, “Hell” will refer to the fire and brimstone or “Traditional Hell” (Adams, p. 276). Adams’ position will be elaborated upon by first discussing the non-fatalistic aspects of the problem of evil. Next, her position will be strengthened by inspecting Richard Swinburne’s theodicies. Lastly, an examination of Adams’ discussion on human agency will support her view that Hell is a bigger problem than evil.…

Hell, as envisioned by Dante Aligheri in the 14th century, was classified into several circles, representing sins that fall into the themes of incontinence, violence, or fraud. Dante’s organization of The Inferno was meticulous and extremely detailed, to the point where some even labelled his Inferno as a “perfectly functioning bureaucracy” (V: Note 9-12) . While he was very successful and venerated for creating such a comprehensive idea of Hell, if his concept is the standard that must be lived up to in the modern, 22nd century that civilization lives in now, a majority of society would be condemned to the deepest circles of Hell. This influx of souls damned to the lowest part of Hell is due to the fact that some sins, that Dante’s society deemed the worst of the worst (such as those located in the spheres of fraud), have become commonplace in modern society, and have dawned a new, non-malicious connotation. Therefore, Dante’s 14th century version of the Inferno is outdated, and must be revised to reflect…

Sinners in the Hands of an angry God B. Jonathan Edwards C. “the pit is prepared, the fire is made ready, the furnace is now hot, ready to receive them; the flames do now rage and glow” (lines 14-16). This quote paints an image in the reader’s mind of what hell is like and that you are walking on thin ice and you can fall at any moment and be trapped in the pit of Hell. “The glittering sword is whet, and held over them, and the pit hath opened its mouth under them...” (Line 17). Jonathan Edwards is showing personification because he is depicting Hell as some sort of beast with his mouth wide open.…

For as long as there has even been a theological understanding of the existence of God, heaven and the story of humankind’s beginnings, there has been a conversation about hell. The presence of hell hearkens back to the Old Testament and the concept grows throughout the Bible until the great unveiling of its physical manifestation in the book of Revelation. It is this final understanding of what hell will be that sticks in the minds of many Christians and theologians. In fact, what has been described in the book of Revelation is the basis for the characterization of hell in popular culture and represents imagery that has since persisted through the generations.…

This manipulation of reality is continued when Satan expands on his alternate view of the world: “not to be changed by place or time / The mind is its own place” (253-254). Satan hints at what he believes to be true. His mind controls how he reacts to his surroundings, not the other way around.…
