Sometimes there is excessive group loyalty and too much group loyalty is more dangerous that too little because the potential damage of group fanaticism is wider than that of individual egoism (Fairlamb). Excessive group loyalty has the numbers to do real damage (Fairlamb). In such an institution such as corrections strength in numbers is crucial. For one, correctional officers remain heavily outnumber by those incarcerated who are under their supervision. However, while strength in numbers is vital to survival when threats become real, the strength in numbers of employing unethical methods or approaches to their job duties quickly becomes a difficult task to overturn.
