The classroom setting is for, four-year-old preschool aged children. The idea behind the preschool comes from Piaget’s theory that children learn by a process of adaptation, assimilation, and then accommodation. During the first step, they interpret new stimulation in ways that fit with what they already know. As the new information assimilates, the existing knowledge modifies and creates a better match. Lastly, the child’s understanding gradually changes from the interaction with the environment.…

1 I come from a long line of educators and administrators on both sides of my family. Various relatives of mine have taught me to understand and appreciate the importance of education. This being the case, they have inspired my decision to be a teacher, preferably an elementary school teacher. Last year, I sat in on my aunt’s third grade class at Washington Irving, an elementary school in my district that I attended for three years. After visiting the classroom a handful of times, I absolutely fell in love.…

It feels like so long ago when I first began this English course. I can remember being so excited about the class topic, racism and social justice, which I felt that I had a lot of passion for. Little did I know that I would have to gather up even more enthusiasm and passion to be able to continue writing papers about the same topic all semester long. This course has tested my endurance, and at many times my patience, and for that I am thankful because I know in the end, it has made me a better writer. Despite various minor challenges this semester I believe that I have put in the hard work that it takes and I have achieved the course goals and will complete this class feeling fulfilled and accomplished.…

“The environment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences.” –Maria Montessori Although she may have had some radical ideas for her time, I feel that Maria Montessori touches upon a necessity of success in education, interest. In my own educational career, and now in my career as an educator, I have seen how interest can make all the difference in the effort and attention a child puts into their coursework. My purpose in applying to graduate school follows the principles of interest and passion. I worked in a field that I wasn’t enjoying or feeling fulfilled in, and each day was a marathon I struggled to push myself through.…

My plan is to be a fourth grade teacher and I believe democratic education would be the best fit in that classroom because the children will have the opportunity to plan with me what we are working on while I am the sole leader. When I was in fourth grade, my teacher had us work on a project about the different states in America. We had the chance to pick who we wanted to work with and what state we wanted to research. My teacher was still in control of the classroom, but we had discussions to figure out how we were to do our project. Amy Gutman describes democratic education as the value of equality which is why I believe democratic education is the best idea for the…
