Within the democratic theory, the authority is shared between the students, the parents and the state. Amy Gutmann says, “The democratic virtue, too simple stated, is that we can publicly debate educational problems in a way much more likely to increase our understanding of education and each other…” (11). When the different parties can have a deliberation about an issue, everyone will have the opportunity to state what they believe is right. Political disagreement is great to have because it can educate the citizens as well as social progress. My plan is to be a fourth grade teacher and I believe democratic education would be the best fit in that classroom because the children will have the opportunity to plan with me what we are working on while I am the sole leader.
