In Tunisia in 2010, there was a wave of protests that led to the overthrow of authoritarian rulers in Tunisia and in Egypt, Libya, & Yemen (Jeanette 2015). These Arab spring protests are an example of how authoritarian governments are failing to run placidly because of unhappy people. A famous incident is when a mob of angry citizens who had had enough of dictatorship rule publicly pummeled the ex-ruler of Libya, Muammar Gaddafi, with rifle butts who then, died. The freedom house’s rating of political and civil rights shows that the countries such as Saudi Arabia who are under the monarchy system are lowest rated in terms of political and civil freedom whereas the democracies, Australia, USA, UK and Canada are rated 1, completely free (Freedom house 2014).
This paper has provided arguments to support democracy as a better form of government than any of the authoritarian forms.
