The text stated, “7 or 8 hands go up immediately. Several others go up more slowly. Everyone looks around the table as the foreman rises and begins to count hands.” To add on, the text also had a juror saying, “This better be fast. I got tickets to the ball game, Yankees-Cleveland. We got a new kid pitching, Modjelewski, or whatever his name.” Furthermore, in the text Juror 3 stated, “What figures? It’s those people! I'm telling you, they let the kids run wild up there. Well maybe it serves em right.” Rose is showing how, in a democracy, not everybody uses their power responsibly. People’s choices are influenced by others, people simply do not care about their power as a citizen in a democracy, and people abuse their power just for their own bias. In the poem it stated, “I have as much right as the other fellow has / To stand on my own two feet / And own the land.” To add on, Hughes also stated, “I tire so of hearing people say / Let things take their course.” Furthermore, the poem also stated, “I live here too / I want freedom / Just as you.” Hughes is trying to convey how unfair democracy is. He shows how he should have the same rights as others, and how he cannot rely on what might happen in the future. He wants a real democracy now. To conclude, Hughes feels a democracy is flawed because, not everybody has equal
