“Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.” (William A. Foster). Who talks about expertise on quality, talks about quality gurus like W. Deming being the philosopher who wanted to offer a new way to view the world and Juran the practitioner who tried to teach people better management practices. Despite the fact that Deming and Juran hardly spoke to each other, probably due to their disagreement on who saved Japan, if a Dream Team on quality could be make, it would include of Deming and Juran. Both helped to improve quality in private and public institutions, in manufacturing, and government etc. Deming and Juran had different points of view regarding the use of “cost of quality” as a focus tool of measurement, and the role of suppliers however, both contributed greatly to the improvement and better knowledge of the organizations. …show more content…
Deming prefers for example the use of one supplier where it’s possible because according to him it will reduce the different amount of incoming materials. Not to mention that according to him this practice should be built on a long-term relationship of trust and understanding between the purchaser and the supplier. Thus, to maintain a long-term contract with the organization, the supplier will be more likely to improve its own process to provide better products and/or services.4 However, despite the fact that Juran also recognizes that there are indeed some advantages to having a single supplier. According to Juran it’s important to have different (reduced) amount of suppliers, especial when it’s about an important product. That way problems like e.g. strikes, accidents or other problems caused by the supplier will not have a major impact on the (purchasing) organizations.
