Delta Sigma Phi Culture

We as a species are bound to live in a network of human relationships while creating communities as we do it. Delta Sigma Phi is the culture I am exploring for the next few weeks. Though it goes under the “Greek Life” concept, they have their own unique ideas and rituals that set them apart from the rest. Aside from films and novels, I never heard the term fraternity and sorority anywhere else. It seems they used symbolic figures (emblem) from Greek alphabets, but apart from that there`s nothing Greek about these organizations. They are clearly a production of true American culture. No such things like brotherhood or sisterhood exists anywhere, I think.

That being said we can see, Greek life is not very known globally. Still, I liked the fact that even though members are from different places, they are able to unite together. During my observation, there weren`t any noticeable racial and ethnic discrimination.
Though members are very open and welcoming, I am not allowed to go to internal affairs like pledge meetings or projects they`re working on. There are some things I don`t quite understand as a woman (phrases and slangs they use, clothing style, certain behaviors…). Also I can`t go there too often, because I don`t want to inconvenience them. This could be a little problematic, but then again I can always observe them in class. As far as conversations go, I learned a bit about the requirements and processes to join fraternity, rules to follow and things they do for fun.
After my first meeting, I wanted to learn more about the reason why so many teenagers join this organization and the admission process. From what I informed, it`s not easy to get into and it takes guts, time and patience. To an outsider`s eyes fraternity is a magical almost mythical place, but is it really true? I hope I can learn more deep dark
