Delta Air Lines Inc is hoping to strengthen partnerships with carriers in South Korea, Mexico, and Brazil. Delta has even been approached about investing in Japan's bankrupt Skymark Airlines. Delta Air Lines has recently purchased a large stake in China Eastern Airlines and has a secure partnership with Virgin Atlantic. A strategic partnership with Skymark Airlines could prove to be a valuable move. Skymark holds landing slots at Tokyo's Haneda Airport that U.S. airlines consider valuable, as a treaty limits U.S. carriers to four slots there. A Skymark investment could pave the way for greater Delta service to Asia. Asia has become the place where U.S. airlines are competing vigorously to grow.
