Delotell's Class Reflection

My Story: A True Tale of Reading in Delotell’s Class Out of all the books I've read this year I've only found one that I truly liked. Don't get me wrong choice reading is still better than having to read a book that a teacher assigned. It always felt as if I chose wrong or I couldn't remember what was happening in my book because we had the class book along with our personal book. I think I found it easier to get back on track when I got distracted. I found it entertaining. Many of the other books just did not have the same appeal. If there would have been more books that I liked then I would say the system worked, it just becomes too hard to juggle multiple books and have a short 10 minute reading time to actually get anywhere with the book. The first book we read as a class was …show more content…
You’ve never heard of them of course.’
‘It’s an absolute disgrace-that bandolier of mine.’
‘Such are the advantages of a really scientific education.’ ” (Huxley 38).
As you can see the dialog switches without letting the reader know who is speaking. I just think we could have had a better book to read in the same amount of time it took us to read half of Brave New World. The Job: True Tales from the Life of a New York City Cop was the first book I read this year, it was the only book that was hard to put down when the time was up. I found it funny and enjoyable to read. “I usually tell[the perps], ‘don't worry, you’ll be out in a few days.’ Most of the time they know I’m full of crap...” (Osborne 95). I found this funny because he tries to make their stay nice and easy by feeding them, giving them a cigarette, and then lying to them about their stay length. I really connected with the book with the way Steve Osborne tells stories. The story also shows what cops are thinking and make them do what they do witch I believe is relevant in current events because people are always thinking cops are making bad

To earn an associates degree from Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) one must take and pass certain classes in order to transfer to a four year institute. One of these many classes is ACA 122-College Transfer Success. It is a one credit course designed to help students who are new to the world of community college and transferring to succeed in the future. For me personally I was not so lucky. This is my last semester at GTCC so this class has been a bit of an annoyance rather than helpful, because a large section of the class is geared towards planning out one’s course schedule for their remanning semesters at GTCC.…

The book “Blue Blood” by Edward Conlon was a very well written book expressing his experiences as being a cop. I really liked this book although at times it was a little hard to follow because of its stories within stories, however it was very enjoyable. I loved how Edward was writing of his experiences while he was still working, for example a lot of people would just recollect their experiences but Edward was writing while it was happening. Which is much better for accuracy and detail of events.…

In the beginning of the semester, we learned about many rhetorical strategies such as simile, repetition, and metaphor. Using this information we are able to understand the purposes the historical articles better. One of the speeches we analyzed was “I Have a Dream” from Martin Luther King. In the second paragraph of this speech, King states, “Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation.” I identified this sentence as the rhetorical strategy of declarations, which is a fact.…

In the Other Wes Moore book there were so many different highs and lows of the book. To me it felt like a roller coaster going up and down. The book has taught me many things that could easily change my life. Some of those would be respect cops no matter what, work hard, and don’t give up no matter what someone tells you. Now I am going to explain why these have affected me so much.…

The cliché “don’t judge a book by its cover” is to be taken literal from this text, Killing Mister Watson. Never have I been so challenged by a novel. Killing Mister Watson hasn't only contested my thoughts of what a novel should be, but dared me to think beyond the box. To understand Peter Matthiessen's book, I had to read it several times and put myself in the character's shoes; if they had any. I attempted to deal with this book at a different approach after having discussions with my class.…

When speaking about morality, subconsciousness and consciousness play a detrimental role into the recognized idea of good and bad. When identifying morality in the criminal justice system, it can play one of the vital ingredients to the morality pie: discretion. Every public servant has to utilize discretion, to idealize the consequences of the public, they are serving, there is never a right or wrong. The nature of discretion is within the morality of the common public - for example, whether a red shirt is blue or a blue shirt is red… there is an obvious answer for either, but depending on who is asking the question… it can have many different answers.…

The book I chose to read was Worst Case by James Patterson. I’ve heard really good things about the author from both my brother and dad. When I was trying to find a book, I asked my brother for help since he also likes that genre. He has a enormous box of books that I sorted through until I found a book that I liked the looks of. The cover is a picture of a cop in front of New York City.…

My thesis states that Accelerated Reader or Scholastic Reading Inventory should not be used because it causes more harm than it does good. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rc/Ar is a reading program developed to help kids with literacy be “Testing their comprehension” of novels and giving them points if they pass tests on the books. Along with those they take a test to check their reading level giving them a score based on their answer accuracy. Sounds good right, well I believe otherwise for many reasons.…

The lessons the workshop taught the children that went through it was invaluable. We hope that we as adults show our children learn from us the mistakes of the past and treat people equally. A lot of times unfortunately people have stigmata’s either put on them by society because of how they look or they put them on themselves and people treat them differently. The lessons that this workshop teaches are lessons that everyone should have. You can spend our entire life trying to instill the values in your children that this class does in two days, and I want my children to be kind to people as we all do; I do not want them to ALIENATE someone because they are not the same as them, different ETHNITICIY or part of a MINORITY GROUP.…

My class would go once a week to check out books. Some books I can remember checking out a lot were “Danny The Dinosaur”, and my favorites “The Rainbow Fish”, and “Stellaluna”. All the kids in my class were given several pencils with pencil grips on them to help us write.…

There were no reading logs and no reflection projects. The only expectation was that the students would read the occasional assigned book, such as Romeo and Juliet or The Odyssey. However, these books were assigned intermittently enough to make the frustration I suffered from their restriction negligible. This newfound freedom led me to discover my new favorite genres of writing, which were, and still are, science fiction and dystopian novels. My initial experience with science fiction was H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine.…
