Feminist has fought extraneously for females to be equal to men. In our society as a consequence of patriarchy we still suffer from the plight of men casting judgement on us women for our behaviour be it sexualized or not. Our dress code, our attitude, our bodies, our sexual behaviour are all heavily critiqued within society. Males are free to have sex with as many females as they see fit where as a female, in order to be respected is expected to preserve her innocence until marriage and only have sexual relations with that one man until death. This has been the rule and code by which female’ s sexuality has been measured for century’s and unfortunately despite the various strides toward change that has been made by various members of this …show more content…

Ramsol explicitly states repeatedly “rules is rules & laws is laws & u cannot remove NO documents from de premises a-tall a-tall” (Antoni, 194) in saying this she strives to separate business from pleasure essentially and informs Mr. Robot that although they have a sexual relationship, she is not going to break away from the professional procedure. However, as the story develops and toward the end we notice that negotiations begin and in an attempt to secure her personal vendetta she discards the rules that she had been so deligently maintaining for the most of the story. “well we only offerin u a lil suggestion of how you could do it , as much photo copies as u want to copy, as much of copies as u could ever WISH TO COPY...U could have dem BOTH, pussy & photocopies, as much as u could want, only ting is u got to do what is right &proper by de rules, u got to follow de rules.”(Antoni, 213) here the negotiations take place that demonstrates Ms. Ramsol’s full power, both the birthed power her “sweet pussy” and the power that she obtains as a an educated woman that is able to recognize the power that she is capable of having should she combine like Sikuya realize her education with her femininity. Both women are able to contest patriarchal power by craftily using what would be considered entirely wrong and using it to obtain a powerful status in their

With the recent #metoo movement empowering women from all over to come out and share their stories of how they have been disrespected and treated so horribly and the Women’s March this past weekend I began thinking about feminism again. To be specific, feminism and men. These past few of years have been awesome ones for women and awesome for feminism. It is unfortunate that it requires such negative situations to finally allow women to be heard, but at least they are finally being heard loud and clear. With all this women empowerment though I believe some forget that not all men are the same, that not all of us are disgraces like those who caused the #metoo movement.…

Mariah Inghram ENG 3060J Ms. Berta December 1, 2016 Reader Response Five Rebecca Solnit’s book, Men Explain Things to Me, is atypical of others in that it is made up of various essays in which Solnit addresses different areas of feminist thought regarding womens’ oppression. Though the entirety of Solnit’s work in Men Explain Things to Me could be analyzed in terms of theorist Bell Hook’s ideas in the “Feminist Masculinity” chapter of her analytical work, Feminism is for Everybody, this essay will serve to examine only the overarching idea presented in the “Men Explain Things to Me” essay portion of the Solnit’s work. The central idea of this essay is that the patriarchal practice of silencing of women through society’s tendency to value men’s word over women’s is problematic because it works to discount experiences, such as domestic abuse or rape (Solnit). However, it is Solnit’s disconcertment with female silencing that Bell Hook’s assertion builds on in the “Feminist Masculinity” chapter of her book by suggesting that patriarchal values and/or ideas are not only harmful to women, but they are also harmful to men in that they too can work to silence male experiences (Hook).…

In society today, it is often assumed that women are the victims of atrocious oppression at the hands of men. This belief includes the thoughts that women are held back by unequal pay, being denied leadership roles, having to be the primary caretaker of children, and more. Feminists argue that they are trying to improve society by correcting these issues. Richard Dorment is his essay “Why Men Still Can’t Have It All” explores the topic of feminism and attempts to show a different view of it by showing some negative aspects of the feminist movement. This stance challenges a movement that proclaims it is fighting for an honorable cause.…

In the article “Feminism Still Relevant as Long as Gender Inequality continues to exist” by Luisa Sanchez, she writes that unless the world becomes gender equal then feminism should still exist. However, because of resistance from those who don’t support gender equality or those who take it to the extreme only inhibit the process to that goal. She poses several questions about why wouldn’t a woman support gender equality and how are body functions a justification to “under estimate me?” Sanchez’s points come down to an overall contingency: feminism is still very relevant and very much needed. This movement still needs our attention because we are not all equal, no matter how much people say we are.…

From the second that a baby is born into this exhilarating and fast-paced world, they are instantaneously born into a never-ending cycle of socialization. In this moment, they are given social identities that will assist in describing who they are, who they are going to be, and their individual role. In this cycle, adolescents are informed about multiple stereotypical messages, which are learned through the ones they love and trust, and by mass media. It is in the core of this cycle of socialization where the stereotypical messages of feminism are created and sustained with the assistance of the all-powerful patriarchy. Several assumptions believed by anti- and non-feminists are that feminism is no longer needed and feminism is only for women.…

In today’s perverted media, women and men alike are being shamed, disgraced, and blamed for indefensible crimes committed by the worst type of criminal: a rapist. Rape culture in America must end because the objectification of women, the hypersexuality of men, and the acceptance of victim-blaming should not be social norms. Even through our commendable social progress, we are still seeing the blatant objectification and degradation of women. It is 2017 and young girls and boys are still seeing men treat women like they are simply objects of their sexual desire. Robin Tran, who is of the male gender, speaks up on the issue, stating “when we’re taught that an entire gender exists purely to satisfy others’ needs, it dehumanizes millions of people”…

Throughout the novel, the actions of the female characters reveal a desire for revolt against the usual hierarchy. Due to family tragedy and social isolation, Merricat and Constance have power over their day-to-day lives that is unusual for young women in the 1960s, and the book is concerned with the sisters’ struggle to defend that power from men who would take it. The sisters’ ultimate win is that they succeed in kicking the men out from their lives. The Author then, presents a vision that could be seen as a kind of equality in which the sisters reject many structures and icons of male power, such as money and the traditional family, and are able to make a woman-centered life for…

Feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men (“Feminism”). Women have always struggled in the fight to gain equality with men, despite the many major advances; society still has a long way to go in addressing the issue of gender inequality. Women’s rights are somewhat a delicate and unsettled subject that society still continues to debate today. The belief that women simply because they are women are treated inequitably within a society as it is organized to prioritize the male viewpoints and concerns. Within a patriarchal society, women have always been placed on a lower status compared to men.…

Nowadays, the word “feminist” is frequently used as a derogatory term and thrown around as an insult. Many people are under the impression that to be a feminist, one must abhor men, must hate housewives, and must not wear makeup. Strangely, none of these are what defines a feminist. A feminist is an individual who believes in the equality of both sexes, as argued by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her TED Talk, We Should All Be Feminists. In her speech, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie emphasizes how detrimental the effects of gender inequality are on humans, but most importantly, women.…

The moral philosophy of feminism is a big part of today's world socially. Women feel that they are not treated the same as men on a social level considering that men do not receive the same consequences that women do when they do not accept their traditional gender role. In “Feminist Criticism” an article by Lois Tyson from 2006, Tyson talks about what traditional gender roles are in today's society. She compares the ways in which men and women are seen in society and how women can be seen as “bad girls” meaning they don't accept their gender role. The traditional roles are seen as girls are emotional and weak while men are strong and rational.…

Patriarchy, like other social constructs, is an internal systematic oppression that has slowly evolved over the course of humanity and somehow managed to stick around. How the patriarchy came to be and why it is still in place are questions with indeterminate answers. However, many feminist works go on to challenge the patriarchy’s actuality by identifying certain characteristics of our society that may have contributed to the growth and dominance of the male gender. Although, so as to correct any personal convictions, it is important to recognize that a patriarchal culture can only exist given that the oppressed is accommodating.…

Anyone who is living in the 21st century has heard of the movements of gender equality and feminism. This topic of interest has been around for awhile, and is making a huge comeback. When thinking about gender discrimination, our minds naturally assume that women are the ones being discriminated against. That assumption is wrong, men and women are equally stereotyped into roles of masculinity vs. femininity. In order to fight for gender equality, we have to understand what gender equality is, and why feminism isn 't just for women.…
