An ecosystem is a delicate balace because each organism depends on the others to survive, and they support each other. Everything is connected and if one part of an ecosystem experiences a change, then everything else changes as well. When change occurs in an ecosystem and one small species goes extinct, this affects all the organisms that used the extinct one as a food source. Thus, those other species cannot find food and their populations decrease. Parts of an ecosystem that seem completely unrelated to the extinct species are also largely affected.
