Women throughout literature were seen as just housewives and were looked down upon. Women were not given the same opportunities as men even if they were just as qualified. In the movie The Crucible, women were not in positions of power because they were in the house with the children. This further proves that women in early literature were seen as frail and unfit for anything besides basic housework, cooking, and taking care of the kids.
