Michael Ignatieff once said, “Genocide is not just a murderous madness; it is, more deeply, a politics that promises a utopia beyond politics - one people, one land, one truth, the end of difference. Since genocide is a form of political utopia, it remains an enduring temptation in any multiethnic and multicultural society in crisis.” According to the article, over a million of civilians have been displaced or severely affected by violence in the past two years. The forces were under the command of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, he has carried out attacks against the civilians. (“Who’s At Risk? Sudan Backgrounder”) The modern genocidal conflict in Sudan is similar to the Holocaust because it employs dehumanization, extermination, and denial. …show more content…
Dehumanization is when you make a human feel nothing but a human, when you take everything that somebody has then it feels like they have lost there self and does not know who they really are. When people call them names and compare them to something that they are not. According to, (“Genocide Emergency: The Nuba Mountains of Sudan”) “The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) are using a systematic policy of intimidation, rape, torture, and detention against women and children and the elderly.” In this quote, the Sudan Armed Forces are dehumanizing there civilians because they are beating them and torturing them, they are making them feel less than human. According to, (“The Dehumanization of the Jews”) “The Nazis dehumanized the Jews because they viewed the Jews as an undesirable, worthless racial group that was responsible for communism, capitalism, liberalism, socialism, and revolution.” During the Holocaust, the Nazis blamed the Jews for things that they could not help. The Nazis thought that Jews were not human, and they wanted the Jews to think that they were not human also.
