He was born on July 19, 1834 in Paris, France. He grew up in Paris, France. When he was young he loved book, and he was a serious student in high school.
His father hoped he would study as a lawyer, but instead he applied for the School Of Fine Arts. He went to law school, but was soon begging his father to let him study as an artist. Eventually his father agreed to support his art career.
Edgar had two sisters and two brothers counting him three, a mom and a dad of course. His mother's name was Celestine Musson Degas, his father's name was Augustin Degas, Marguerite Degas and Therese Degas were his sisters names, and his brothers names were Rene Degas and Achille Degas.
His mother past away when Edgar was only 13 years old. His mother was a Opera singer and his father was a french banker.

Degas was obsessional, he spent many hours at the Louvre and by 1860 he had drawn of 700 copies of other people's work.
Edgar is known for his paintings, sculptures, printmaking, and drawings. He is considered a founder of Impressionism
He didn't really like to travel a lot. He mostly stayed at home.Edgar Degas culture is French. He mostly spent his time drawing, printmaking, making sculptures etc. He made most of his artwork in his studio. Most of his artwork represented ballet.
