Why Literature Is Important To Me Analysis

By a show of hands how many people here would consider them selves an advant reader, meaning reading at least once a day. Now of those people how many of you would say that what you read is either classical or socially important. You see I find it intresting that their seems to be a sort of growing away from reading something classical, not only hear but in this whole country. Out of all of the high income countries in the world we are ranked 12 in literacy. 44% of U.S adults have admitted to not reading even one book a year. 50% of adults in this country cannot read a book on an 8th grade level. and even 6 out of 10 homes a year do not even purchase one single book a year. Literature has given me great gifts to my personality and my own health with out me even noticing it. First off, Literature has been a great time saver. It has opened me up to feelings and experiences that would have taken me a lifetime to notice all by myself. The sun also rises, To kill a mockingbird, and the stranger have made me experience emotions and events I would never be able to have my experience, thats because reading is personal between you and the author. This brings me to my second point, Literature makes usmore empathetic, sympathetic, and compassionate. Writers are more likely to be personal with the reader because they write for a single reader, not trying to attract a mass audience for money. Tis allows them to relate the most personal experiences and makes us understand our actions and the actions of others. Also reading helps us to communicate. they allow us to communicate with people who live far away from us and can help us understand other lives around us. They can help us to communicate the complexities of human experiences and the impact that they can have a on a certain person due to certain
