Wild Kratts Essay

Four definitions were found to be contenders in this research paper’s definition of “violence”. The first definition is from Gerbner which he first defined in his cultivation theory in 1976. He defined violence as such, “the overt expression of physical forces against others or self, or the compelling of action against one’s will on pain of being hurt or killed”. The second definition is from Bandura (1983) where he defines aggression as a “behavior that results in personal injury and physical destruction”. His original definition was seen as vague so he expanded the definition by adding that “the injury may be physical, or it may involve psychological impairment through disparagement and abusive exercise of coercive power”. The third definition …show more content…
These instances of violence in themselves were not extremely violent. In the beginning of the episode, the villain Chef Gourmand kidnaps lemurs from their natural habitat, this act was given half a point because you do not see him kidnapping the animal, and there was no visible harm done to the lemurs. The next four events happened during the scenes where the Kratt brothers and their team tried to rescue the lemurs. Chef Gourmand attempted to stop the Kratt brothers from rescuing the lemurs by firing pizza dough at them in an attempt to trap them on a tree. He temporarily succeeds when he ties their legs in pizza dough while they are on the ground. Gourmand and Aviva then begin to “duel” with a rolling pin and electronic arm. The episode ends with Gourmand and his restaurant flying off in the sky because of balloons Koki tied to it. This was the only episode that showed any violence. The next show examined was Curious George which showed no instances of violence, this can probably be attributed to the show’s goal of showing the act of friendship and acceptance in …show more content…
With Wild Kratts, there was definitely violence that fit the definition of the paper, but I would not say that any of this violence was particularly bad. There is almost a double standard in children’s shows; most creators think that if it is a hero is fighting a villain then the violence is acceptable. With Wild Kratts as an example, Avivi and Chef Gourmand dueling, that is problematic because children can reenact the scene, whereas when Koki ties balloons to Chef Gourmand’s restaurant that is harmless violence because there is no way for kids to reenact it. The Big Bang Theory was more verbally violent than physically violent. The verbal violence in this show may be brushed off as friendly banter by adults; which is acceptable if the adults are the only people watching the show. However, more often than not, families watch television together. So by seeing this sort of verbal behavior on the Big Bang Theory, younger children might think the banter shown is an appropriate way to speak to their friends. While their intentions may be harmless, this sort of unnoticed behavior can sometimes grow into

While referencing the terror inflicted on the people of the Dominican Republic under the reign of Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, the author Robert Crassweiler once said: The extent to which violence, both open and covert, is a constant factor in the life of the region may cause surprise. Understanding the Dominican Republic’s cultural atmosphere without discussing the lasting effects of the notoriously violent Trujillato is impossible. In The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, our main characters continue to be influenced by the tumultuous Trujillo regime more than twenty years after its fall.…

The show is primarily about a young girl helping and fixing her toys from damages by portraying a medical doctor persona. In the show, which has around 22 minutes showed four verbal aggressions, eight physically aggressive scenes, and three relationship aggressive scenes accumulating a total of fifteen aggressive scenes. Quite a large portion on the aggression came from physical violence due to the show being primarily about helping damaged toys. Half of the shown aggression in “Doc McStuffins” being verbal and relationship was in the way of snarky remarks from characters and backtalk, which was usually ignored by the directed character. Being a kids educational show all the verbal, social and relationship behavior should be gratified in concern as the tone and intensity was not too despicable and was light in terms of negativity.…

Violence can be described as the intent to hurt or damage something or someone, which can be done in a number of ways. The group of writings that I chose was under the title of “Cultures of Violence”, and I believe that this heading efficaciously describes the two essays within it. On War by James Boswell, and The Paranoid Style of American Policing by Ta-Nehisi Coates, each tell their thoughts on violence and how they view it within different areas of today’s society. However, I feel that On War is better able to effectively convey its purpose. The purpose of On War by James Boswell was to tell his personal thought on the irrationality of war.…
