The american dream dates all the way back to when america was first founded in 1776. The definition of the American Dream is that everyone should have an equal opportunity to achieve success through hard work, determination and initiative. People want to achieve freedom usually because they feel like they are being trapped by something or someone. In “Diary of Anne Frank” Anne is literally trying to gain freedom from the germans in World War II. She is figuratively trying to gain freedom by escaping the thought of living in an attic for the rest of her life because she wants to continue on with her life(Anne Frank). Freedom isn’t always just escaping something but more knowing you are safe and capable to do anything and everything without someone else telling you different.
