Definition Of Racism In America

In our country, the United States, racism is one of the biggest problems. It is not only big in our country but the world. In 1619 through 1865 slavery occured in the United States. The magority was black slaves with white masters and it occured for a long period of time till it ended during the end of the Civil War. To this day students in all schools learn about slavery and the harsh conditions that the slaves had to grow and it will always be a hard, sad subject to learn about for most students. As a student in High School and College I hear about Racism all the time. There are some racist people in this world but sometimes the word "racist" is misused. If a person was to say that she or he does not date African Americans they 're automatically called racist. Just becuase they do not date a certain race does not mean he or she is a racist it just means they would like to be with some one of the same race or just not that specific race. People over use the term Racist way to much. If a person was to say that he or she does not like that race because of so many reasons than, that person is indeed likely to be a racist. I feel as if the society has missused and overly used this word a lot. One of the ways is all people need to realize Racism is not just whites against blacks, racism is including all groups, like blacks against whites, hispanic against white and etc. People need to speak up for what they believe and people need to also listen. Sometimes people speak and they want others to listen to them so they have to listen to others to. Another way to end or prevent Racism is to give people chances. Do not judge a person on their appearance like if they have a mean look to them or the way they dress or by their skin
