Management Information Systems or MIS are computer based hardware and software systems that incorporate financial data as well as other business data and resources that are needed to proficiently manage a company. It is used for collecting and transmitting and translating data. Management Information Systems produce useful data and reports that allow a business operate more efficiently. There are usually six components of and MIS, hardware, software, firmware, data, procedures and people.

Their main objective is to ensure that data is stored and used efficiently which will allow both industries to have an edge over their competitors. The systems both store data that is used both by employees as well as the customers they service. The data can be reviewed and translated to make immediate changes in scheduling or other aspects of the business. The systems are different because the banking system deals with taking care of their customer’s money and investments and KFC’s system does not. The banking system’s MIS also does not store menu items and prices for their customers. Fast food restaurants such as KFC uses transaction processing systems to capture day to day transactions and their DSS or Decision Support System analyzes the market allowing them to plow through a large amount of data so that they are able to make the best decisions to ensure that they are on top of their competitors. The banking industry uses information systems to help manage their internal operations and to make informed and quick decisions. Their DSS System allows them make informed decisions in such as; granting a loan or not, the terms and interest rate of the loan. The benefits of DSS are; speedy computation and problem solving, improved collaboration, increased productivity and improved flexibility of time and space of the decision making process.
