What is intoxication? There are many different definitions of intoxication. For example, to the poets’ intoxication means drinking an abundance amount of alcohol. But, defining a word may not only be limited to that one definition. Intoxication could mean you're mentally excited about something. The word intoxication has a different meaning to whoever defines the word. In my opinion, the most dangerous type of intoxication is love. Love makes people do stupid things and not think about other people but the two of them. For instance, usually, when a couple gets together during their “honeymoon” stage they will disregard everything else besides themselves because they are in their own little world. It is my favorite type of intoxication because you see people go from this independent person to depending on someone for everything. It amazes me how something like love can change a person to become a totally different person and they won’t even realize that it has happened to them. In my case, my first love, I remember how it really did change me. Not only did I care more about him but every moment was always about him and I never got to see my best friend or hung out with my friends. For months all I did was go to school, work, and go see him. It was very unhealthy at the end because I realized that I needed to have my own life. I need to focus more on school and less on him, but the fact that something like love can blind me shows how powerful this intoxication really is. In Li Po’s poem, Drinking Alone in the Moonlight he first says how lonely he is because he states “I am alone with my pot of wine drinking by myself”. Usually, when you imagine people drinking wine, there is supposed to be a lot of people drinking together for a happy occasion or a family gathering, but in the poem, he is drinking alone. It means that he is very lonely so he looks to the moon and his shadow for friends. “Yet these are friends I can always count on”
